St. Julian Horse and Sulky Weathervane

This Weathervane is made by  A. B. & W. T. Westervelt

102 Chambers Street

New York, New York.

Its body is copper; the horses head and the driver are made of zinc. Through the years the original gold leaf wore off, leaving traces  of yellow sizing and gold leaf and a beautiful Verdigris surface developed. This Weathervane is one of the finest examples of weathervane craftsmanship. The flaring nostrils and bulging veins in the head show just how hard the horse is working toward winning the race. The leg muscles in the legs are anatomically correct. Even the hoofs have horse shoes, a rare  occurrence in weathervanes. The driver's jacket shows wrinkles.
